This little girl was so fun to photograph and I absolutely adore this hat with the crocheted flower. And her parents are amazing. I'll share a few photos of her 3 handsome brothers later.

Make sure and click on the photo to see it larger. It looks even more amazing that way.

I would love to see this one on canvas, printed large, say 24x30. That way you can't miss her porcelain skin and her beautiful eyes and lips. Not all babies love this pose. She did. She snuggled right down into the blanket and would have been content to stay there the rest of the night.

Spunky Monkey paper pak

My son loves monkeys. Maybe it's because everyday after Dad walks in the door he rushes to change out of his 'monkey suit' into something comfy. Maybe it's the cute monkey he earned the money to buy from Build a Bear. Maybe it's the fact that the neighbor boy bought one just like it so they could play together. Maybe it's the monkey blanket I made him from fleece I purchased at JoAnn's.

He asked for a monkey party and he got one. I finally made the paper to go with it so that I could finally scrapbook it. I'm funny that way, I like things custom. Apparently so do my children.

We've photographed her mother and father's wedding years ago. We photographed her brother as a newborn. Her mom made all sorts of headbands and brought cute blankets and scarves. We printed a 20x24, an11x14, an 8x10, a 10x30 inch storyboard, and last of all a 5x5 inch book with 20 pages.

It's not because we haven't had any photo sessions - it's just that I haven't been up to posting anything. I hope you'll forgive me. I'll start with a post about something near and dear to me. It's the new cancer foundation in our valley. My husband is on the board for Cache Valley for Hope. You can also 'Like' them on facebook. I've been busy helping a friend who has breast cancer and three young children. The foundation purchased a new fridge for her so she could have ice chips at home. This friend also attended the Gala because a wonderful business in town bought a table and donated it to current cancer patients. As you can see I went to the Gala too and I loved the dress. It is hard to find a modest dress that looks nice on a 35 year old mother of two but we did it with the help of the Petals and Promises. After the gala we ran downstairs into our studio and took a few photos. Pam at Valhalla Salon and Spa did my hair for the event.

I have several family photo sessions to catch up on and share, a few newborn sessions, an upcoming newborn session, and a wedding. They have their discs but I just haven't added them here yet. I've averaged 4 migraines a week since school let out the first week in June.

Of course I had guidance from my son on this one - it needed a pointy tongue and the soccer ball needed to be on fire, plus a horn on his nose, and a longer tail. What can I say? It was fun to create something with him. I placed his name under his photo. And of course the city name goes next to Dragons. And my husband was coach so I added his name and kept his photo visible too for you to see. It was kinda bright for photos but you don't get a choice sometimes. Hyrum City Royalty Pageant 2011

Tyler photographed the pageant and I made the program. I think it turned out lovely with a beautiful handmade flourish and a great quote along with the program for the night. The girls were lovely and those who made a difference in their community and survived serious struggles, including one who survived cancer, were able to share their stories.

Tyler also photographed each girl individually and he also photographed the night as it went along. I'll post a few favorites as soon as I get the chance to find out Tyler's favorites.

As you can tell its the beginning of wedding season here in Utah again. And this bride is not only gorgeous but we are privileged to call her a friend. Her father helped care for my son each Sunday for 6 months when my husband went to church without me during chemo. It's hard to believe I was diagnosed almost 5 years ago (April 21st). She's all grown up!

But I do like helping them figure out how to do it on their own. Here is what she had to say about the individual attention she needed on a photo that was dear to her:

Laura,

Thank you so much! What you did with the one photo and the advice you gave about the other should really help.

I also thought I'd share some unique perspectives that I got after your retouching. First, when I went looking for the photo with the more neutral backdrop, I thought I remembered it being blueish and was surprised when it seemed more gray. Your retouching made it look the way I remembered it. Likewise, warming up the faces made me like my own much better--I'm the one not smiling! It made the look much warmer, and typically I think I look either very serious or more "all smiles" in my childhood photos.

Anyway, my ultimate point is I like the retouched photo so much that I plan to frame it and spend more time restoring the bookcase photo, which as you said needs a lot of individual attention.

Just a few photos from the World Joy Ghana dinner and auction last night.

It's really hard to be worried about the recession when these people are so poor that they don't even know there is a recession. Sky View High built a kindergarten in Ghana last year. In 2011 more of our valley is involved and we want to build a health post there. It was wonderful to be a part of the night and see generosity of the people here in our valley.

A little nature photography - Bald Eagle

We went up a canyon earlier this week to get in some target practice. Luckily we always bring along our cameras. As we were driving back home I spotted this and as soon as my husband could get out of the Jeep he photographed this gorgeous bald eagle taking off. I can honestly say that I've never before seen a photo of an eagle with his wings up like this. It's just as much fun reviewing photos as it is taking them.

We went up a few days later and I spotted him again but he was quite far away.

So we did a little nature photography a little further up the canyon when we stopped to turn around.

Sometimes it's just nice to photograph things you don't have to chase, entertain, or get feedback from. And it was so nice to breath fresh clean air!

Wedding Reception Photography - American West Heritage Center- Cache County Utah

This wonderful couple were married on an island in the middle of the ocean and had a dinner reception back home for their close family and friends. We photographed them just before their guests started arriving for the reception. They have so much energy and were a delight to work with. And you need to check out her cake topper. I think it's my favorite cake topper ever. And if you look back at their rainy engagement photos (and beach wedding), you'll know it fits them perfectly.

Family Photos for the Holidays

You can see from the last photo that the father and daughter in the middle were cloned in. She went with her mommy for Thanksgiving and so we had to add her in. We took a photo of the little girl and her father in our studio. We just didn't have the same background as the location but the light was the same. Also, she wasn't in the grandkid photo. There are actually 15 - and believe it or not, I didn't have to do a single head swap on the Grandkid photo!

Amanda's Bridals - Logan Utah Wedding Photography

You never know what's going to happen during a bridal portrait session. During this one Tyler had to deal with bad weather. Luckily the bride's mom had planned ahead and decided on a location with both indoor and outdoor settings. Amanda was lucky to be able to take advantage of both when the weather decided to finally cooperate. And doesn't she look stunning? I think so!

Amanda brought along a small bouquet that helped with hand placement which creates a more elegant look overall. And of course, you can have portraits taken without the bouquet like the one below.

And sometimes I like to add fun effects with my editing software. All of my textures are original - I created them myself - so you don't have to worry that your photo will look just like your neighbors.

I think this one is my favorite. It really helps that she was comfortable in front of the camera at this point. How do you do that? An engagement session. Practice makes perfect.

And we can change any image to black and white.

I love how the colors in her bouquet coordinate with the painting in the background.

And a photograph of the back of your wedding gown is a must. You will not be placing this one on the wall, but possibly in your wedding album. After all, it's probably one of the reason you love your gown the way your do.

One of the things that made her bridals great was that she took the time to have her hair professionally styled. This is especially important to prevent stray hair which can take a long time to retouch. Not that I'm complaining. I get paid to retouch your images. But you might like your album sooner than later.

Close ups are fun too - you will not always be this young.

Details - you know I love details.

And of course, don't be afraid to share some of your personality.

This bride is quite the athlete.

This year we've been asked to photograph and create the Sky View Cheerleading poster. My husband did the photography. I did the design and retouching. Super fun and talented group of girls! And instead of the standard 8x10, I ventured to ask if they just wanted a disc ... so 16 discs later they each have a high resolution copy of each photo we took as well as this poster that I made custom just for them.

Thanks Natalie! You do such a wonderful job with these girls. It shows. Enjoy the school year!

Her 11 year old daughter is fighting a brain tumor and recently finished another round of treatment. We had so much fun photographing their family and getting to know them better.

And I could have photographed this little guy all day!
